USPTO Learn to think like a patent examiner with STEPP's four-day course (Interest Form, until Monday, July 27, or until full capacity is reached)

This virtual Stakeholder Training on Examination Practice and Procedure (STEPP) course is for persons not registered for practice before USPTO. This STEPP course will cover how examiners review patent applications according to the Manual of Patent Examining Procedure (MPEP) Led by USPTO trainers, and is based on the same training material developed for training new USPTO examiners... A sample application will be provided to each trainee and will be the focus of exercises during each module.

From the program:  Day 1 Patent examination process; Understanding [how to read] a training application; Basic Requirements to File and Informalities. Day 2 Planning a Search (based on claimed and disclosed invention in the training application); Class discussion of examples §§ 101 and 112 (a)-(f). Day 3 Case Reporting - Stage I (after after preliminary examination); Mapping Art to Claims Exercise (instructions and application of prior art to claims of the training application using 35 U.S.C. §§ 102 and 103); Case Reporting - Stage II (after conducting search and analysis claims in respect prior art). Day 4 Mapping art to claim discussion, how examiner writes office action (for a sample application).  Resources for inventors

Solve Intelligence AI Capabilities and the Future in Life Sciences Patent Practice (Registration) (new)

Patelists: Solve’s patent attorney team (TBD)

We’ll demonstrate several features we’ve recently released for life sciences workflows, including improvements to sequence handling and data import. We’ll show live how these features fit into drafting patent applications and building claim charts., We’ll also be candid about the areas where today’s models still struggle in this field.

Add. Info: From Gemini output: “Within the Solve Intelligence Charts environment, sequence data serves as a core layer for life sciences litigation, nullity actions, and freedom-to-operate (FTO) evaluations. The platform bridges the gap between raw biological data and formal legal analysis by treating sequences as explicit claim limitations”; Solve Intelligence handles biological sequences in claim charts by parsing ST.26 sequence listings, aligning nucleic or amino acid constraints against prior art or target products, and mapping specific sequence identifiers directly into automated invalidity, infringement, or freedom-to-operate matrices  “When analyzing a patent, the Charts engine isolates complex claim elements—such as a specific CDR loop region, a percentage identity threshold, or a genetic motif—and sets them as distinct rows in the mapping matrix.” “Breaks down complex biochemical claims element-by-element, linking specific residue positions or motifs to corresponding disclosures in references.” (Attn.: Sources could not be verified!)
